Sunday, August 29, 2015
The Summit Foundation is the beneficiary of the Breck Crest Mountain Marathon. Comprised of 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon trail runs, the races are scheduled annually the Sunday of Labor Day weekend in conjunction with The Summit Foundation’s Annual Rubber Duck Races. $5 from each race entry is donated to The Summit Foundation. As the event beneficiary over the past eight years, The Summit Foundation has received $10,500 in proceeds from event promoter Jeff Westcott and his company, Maverick Sports Promotions, as well as event sponsors and participants.
The popular annual event is known for its rugged nature, elevation gain, and incredible scenery. All races are run on dirt singletrack trails and forest service roads in the Ten Mile Range above Breckenridge. One of the most difficult and scenic long-distance events in America, the near-marathon distance race traverses the Ten Mile Range above timberline and rises to an altitude of 12,400 feet.
Each race begins and ends at the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge. Entry forms and specific details on this year’s event can be found at www.mavsports.com. Individuals may also sign up for the race at The Summit Foundation’s office, 103 S. Harris Street, Suite 201, Breckenridge. A 3.5 percent fee will be added to credit card entries received at The Summit Foundation. No fees apply for payments by cash or check.
