The Summit Foundation strives to inspire donors, build partnerships and mobilize resources to support community organizations in Summit County (and the surrounding communities) that foster health & human service, education, art & culture, sports & recreation and environmental stewardship.

TSF invests over $1 Million in the community

The Summit Foundation recently distributed $1,082,300 in grant awards to local nonprofits providing critical services in Summit County and our neighboring communities, bringing The Summit Foundation’s total 2016 community grant allocations to over $1.7 million.

About half of the fall cycle grants were committed to helping working families, including nonprofits that offer family support services, access to affordable healthcare, basic needs, early childhood education programs, and other assistance to alleviate the high cost of living and help families thrive. The wide-range of support also included financial assistance for school-age children to participate in a variety of activities such as academic enrichment programs, arts outreach, after-school care, sports and recreation, and summer programs.

“The strong fabric of any community is that people are able to live and play where they work, and it is critical that we do everything we can to support our working families so they can enjoy and be a part of everything our community has to offer,” said Jeanne Bistranin, Executive Director of The Summit Foundation. “Even a little bit of support can make a world of difference in making ends meet at the end of the month.”

Vail Resorts EpicPromise also partnered with The Summit Foundation to support six grants for high quality early childhood programs. In addition, Vail Resorts have annually partnered with Copper Mountain Resort and Arapahoe Basin to support The Summit Foundation’s Youth Giving Council, a hands-on program where high school students learn about philanthropy by reviewing grant proposals and ultimately making tough decisions on where the money should be distributed. This month, the youth stayed within budget, awarding nine grants totaling $10,000 for school-based needs and youth programming.

These grants were made possible by over 3,000 generous individuals who provide donations to The Summit Foundation. A portion of gifts made to the Millisor Memorial Fund and Peaks Society Fund were also allocated to fulfill the fall cycle grant requests. In addition, several Donor Advised Funds held with The Summit Foundation helped fill critical gaps in funding in order to leverage support and offer as many services as possible.
