Based in Summit County, Colorado, The Summit Foundation strives to inspire donors, build partnerships and mobilize resources to support community organizations in Summit County (and the surrounding Communities) and create a positive impact through the following priorities: Healthy & Safe Communities, Bright Futures for Children and Youth, Community Engagement & Enrichment, Environmental Stewardship, and a Vital & Thriving Adult Community.
The Foundation distributes over $2.4 million in grants and scholarships annually while growing its endowment fund, which is currently over $6 million.
The role of the Executive Director is to manage the day-to-day and strategic operations of The Foundation as established by the Board of Trustees. Specific areas of responsibility follow:
Donor Services and Relations – Develop ongoing relationships with current and prospective donors that motivate and recognize their support.
Fund-raising - Cultivate existing and new fund-raising streams to support The Foundation’s initiatives.
Philanthropic Leadership – Build and facilitate philanthropic capacity in the local area by maintaining collaborative relations with other community organizations. Provide advocacy and leadership to local nonprofit organizations.
Grant-making Programs and Services – Administer The Foundation’s grant and scholarship policies and procedures. Maintain an awareness of the changing needs and opportunities within the community and make recommendations.
Board and Committee Relations – Work with the Board to ensure the orderly running of meetings and to develop The Foundation’s strategic vision, goal, and strategies.
Management and Administration – Recruit and lead an effective staff. Ensure clear expectations are set and that performance is regularly evaluated. Maintain a working knowledge of the laws and regulations associated with community foundations. Work with legal counsel, accountants, financial managers, and other professionals to enhance the operations of The Foundation and to protect it from adverse actions.
Marketing, Public Relations and Communications – Increase awareness of The Foundation by maintaining relationships with local media, seeking opportunities to speak about The Foundation, and promoting the role of The Foundation in the community. Oversee development of materials for publication.
Budget, Spending, and Investment Oversight – Together with the Board, develop annual operating, capital and endowment fund budgets. Administer fiscal policies and procedures as approved by the Board.
Special Events – Together with staff, attend and ensure the professional execution of all Foundation events.

Solid track record of senior management experience
Hands-on, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making, and reporting
Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation
Ability to execute and convey The Summit Foundation’s vision and strategic future
Proven track record of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector
Skills to collaborate with and motivate staff, trustees and volunteers
Strong written and oral communication skills
Work non-traditional hours as needed
Proven innovation and creativity
Valid driver’s license required
