Summit County food drive pushes toward goal

May 17, 2012 Summit Daily News
Halfway through this month’s Summit County Cares food drive, more than 3,300 pounds of food have been donated. The goal is 10,000 pounds for the month of May.

The number is attainable, according to said Family and Intercultural Resource Center development director Anita Overmyer.

“In the past, we’ve seen a lot of donations come in the last week of the food drive,” she said.

She’s hoping more people will be back in town to give that week as well.

But so far, the donated food, and some funds, have helped the FIRC fill a high demand at its food bank this month.

“It’s really essential to us to hit the goal because we’re trying to make it through the next few months,” she said.

The drive runs throughout May and benefits four local food banks: Family & Intercultural Resource Center, Father Dyer, Dillon Community Church and Church of Christ.

Ways to contribute to your favorite charities

Donor Advised Funds, or DAFs, allow donors to make a tax-deductible gift today while choosing the charities to support as soon as the fund is established or at a later date. Agency Endowment Funds, also referred to as Agency Funds, are established by donors or individual nonprofits to support a particular charitable organization. Either type of fund may be created by individuals, businesses, families, or organizations.
